YouTube Shorts For The Win!

YouTube is one of the most popular streaming platforms not only in India but globally. YouTube’s “Shorts”, launched in 2020, has become an extremely popular format, especially in India. During YB’24, YouTube CEO, Neel Mohan acknowledged the massive Indian creators & audiences, and how they have loved Shorts.

Mohan took the centre stage sharing, “Indian creators are making videos inspired by local trends that go on to define global culture. YouTube is number one in reach and watch time in India. And we just passed a huge milestone. Shorts, which we first launched in India, now have trillions of views here.

Every day, I talk to creators who are telling extraordinary stories,” Mohan shared. “And let me tell you, that’s happening in this country more than anywhere else. In fact, creators in India are doing more than just sharing stories – they’re exporting Indian culture to the world. More than 11 thousand Indian channels have over a million subscribers. That’s a 50% increase year over year,” Mohan added.

Looking at the stats of trillion views in the country, Mohan emphasized that Indian comedy, cricket, & music videos play a major role in the global reach fostering communities around shared passions.

Creators In The Spotlight

Along with Neel Mohan, some of the versatile Indian creators shined bright on the YouTube Brandcast 2024 event. Creators include Tanmay Bhat, Slayy Point, Shreemani Tripathi, Carry Minati, MortaL, Kenny Sebastian, and Kaashvi among others.

The talented duo from Slayy Point ran the show, bringing their charm & humour to every moment and keeping everyone entertained throughout!

Tanmay (OP in the chat) Bhat redefines brand storytelling with his unique blend of wit and insight, making complex concepts relatable and entertaining like no other.

Pioneers of Indian gaming like MortaL, 8bit Thug, Gamerfleet, Kaashvi, Carry Minati and others also bought their A-game, turning up the heat and making the event even more epic!

Indian comedian Kenny Sebastian set the YouTube Brandcast 2024’s stage on fire with his epic dance moves to “Tunak Tunak” and “Chaiyya Chaiyya!”

Watching Kenny bust those moves, we thought we’d seen it all – until Aamir Khan made a surprise appearance for a chat with YouTube’s Head of Creator Partnerships, Niharika Pande. They unmasked “The Creative Formula of Balancing Art, Impact, and Commercial Success.”

Wrapping Up In Style

Looking forward, Mohan highlighted the role of AI in shaping the future of content creation on YouTube. “We’ve launched AI tools that empower human creativity,” he stated, citing the recent rollout of Dream Screen in India as an example. He also shed light on YouTube’s focus on responsible AI development & creative expression.

Mohan concluded his speech at YouTube Brandcast 2024 with a playful note, “There’s only one place you can tap into the unique connections between creators & their fans, and that is YouTube!” And we couldn’t agree more!
