When Social Nation got talking to Niranjan Mondal (aka @laughtersane), we had a few pre-conceived notions about what it would be like. We predicted typical high-energy antics that most viral comedians have to be honest. However, we soon uncovered a depth that drew us in beyond expectation. In Niranjan, we found a quiet intensity and quickly realised that he isn’t just another creator who stumbled into fame. He’s a storyteller who managed to find actual purpose amidst the chaos and clutter of the internet. 

His journey didn’t start with a viral hit or a carefully planned PR strategy. It began with a direct message. A woman about his mother’s age reached out to him with a thought that changed the way he approached content. She told him that humor isn’t just for entertainment. In the right hands, it can “protest, protect, and start conversations.”

That message became the foundation of our discussion and carved out a shift from casual fun to conscious narratives. This instantly took Niranjan from being a dude that makes videos into a voice with a reason, making real time difference and disruption. 

The Accidental Voice of Niranjan Mondal: Louder Than the Laughter

Niranjan Mondal’s roots take him back to Kolkata, the ‘City of Joy’. It’s where his story began and where he found connection. From the rich poetry to the passionate debates about biryani, and the unique humour that was found on a tram ride– He grew up soaking in this dramatic mix without realizing it would later become central to his career.

At first, his content was innocent—just some fun for laughs. But after that pivotal direct message, his work took on a different tone. “It’s pure madness,” he admits. Picture ten mental tabs open at once, ideas brewing in the background, him pacing the room, and sudden bursts of laughter breaking the silence. Any little thing can spark a concept—a meme, a busy street, or a strangely poetic comment from his mother.

That small spark quickly develops into a complete narrative, often unfolding in Hindi, Bengali, and English at the same time. Switching languages became more about instinct and less about strategy. 

“Language shouldn’t be a barrier when talking about important issues,” he insists. His multilingual approach isn’t just about expanding reach; it’s about responsibility.

This is why his signature satire feels so authentic. It isn’t developed in a boardroom; it comes from real-life observations. “The drama, the hypocrisy, the small struggles… they become funny because they are so real,” he tells us.

Niranjan Mondal: The Algorithm vs. The Authenticity

It’s no secret that creators can easily be pulled into viral trends. However, Niranjan takes a refreshing approach when it comes to his content. He sees the algorithm as an “unofficial boss”; one he acknowledges but refuses to serve.

“People follow me for me, not for another trending sound,” he says with a laugh. He engages with trends only if he can twist, subvert, and infuse them with his style of madness. If it doesn’t feel genuine, it isn’t worth the views.

However, he isn’t immune to the pressure. As is common in this industry, Niranjan too, sometimes feels the gap between his online persona and the common Kolkata boy who just wants “aadda” with his pals. The solution? He takes a big step back and reconnects with moments that don’t require a camera or audience. “My content works only when I’m okay,” he says.

Behind the humor is a grounding force. Niranjan has a close-knit circle of older friends who pamper him, critique him, and—most importantly—keep him grounded. They help him avoid getting lost in the digital noise.

Then there’s his “old friend,” creative block. When it shows up, he doesn’t resist it. He takes a break, trusting that ideas will come back when the time is right. “Meanwhile,” he says with a smile, “it’s just my faith and people’s love that keep me going.”

So, who is Niranjan Mondal becoming?

When we ask him about the future, he laughs, keeping his dreams a bit secretive. “Something really big,” he teases, “but it’s a secret. Nazar lag jayegi (It’ll get jinxed).”

Yet he knows this much: whatever he creates in the next five years, his goal remains the same. He wants to make people laugh, think, and feel a little less alone.

If he had to choose a billboard quote to sum up his life, he responds without hesitation: “Keeping you sane, one laugh at a time.”

And honestly, after talking with him, we couldn’t have crafted a better one ourselves.
