Know All About NASA+, The Space Streaming Platform

NASA is on it’s way to launch something epic, and no it’s not another spaceship. The US space agency revealed that they will be launching their own streaming service later this year, called NASA+. It’s a new on-demand streaming service with a revamped website in the beta stage. And enjoying it won’t cost you a dime. The agency is describing the service as a platform to “See more rockets, more science, more space, more missions, more NASA, all in one place.⁣”

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is a central space agency in the US that is admired by space enthusiasts and professionals around the world. People find it extremely fascinating to experience NASA’s past expeditions through their footage and documentaries. They eagerly look forward to learn about the agency’s new findings through their website and informative social media. These are accessible through NASA’s official website and application but the agency is now ready to upgrade both of these to meet modern demands.

The Beta Site

NASA is elevating its digital platforms for all by revamping its flagship and science websites, adding its first on-demand streaming service, NASA+, and upgrading the NASA app. With these changes, everyone will have access to a new world of content from the space agency. Users can access the early, in-progress preview of the beta version of the new website here. NASA encourages everyone to visit the site, test it out and submit their feedback. Once fully launched, the online content from a selection of popular agency websites will be included within this new NASA+ experience to ensure easier, integrated access to NASA information currently found across the agency’s many websites.

Jeff Seaton, Chief Information Officer at the agency’s headquarters in Washington said “Our vision is to inspire humanity through a unified, world-class NASA web experience. NASA’s legacy footprint presents an opportunity to dramatically improve the user experience for the public we serve. Modernizing our main websites from a technology standpoint and streamlining how the public engages with our content online are critical first steps in making our agency’s information more accessible, discoverable, and secure.”

NASA+ users will gain access to the agency’s Emmy Award-winning live coverage and view NASA’s missions through collections of original video series, including a handful of new series launching with the streaming service. “We’re putting space on demand and at your fingertips with NASA’s new streaming platform. Transforming our digital presence will help us better tell the stories of how NASA explores the unknown in air and space, inspires through discovery and innovates for the benefit of humanity,” Marc Etkind, Associate Administrator for the agency’s Office of Communications, said in a statement.

The NASA+ Experience

NASA also mentioned there are updates coming to its website and app. “This new web experience will serve as an ever-expanding yet consolidated homebase for information about the agency’s missions and research, climate data, Artemis updates and more,” NASA said in a blog post. “From exoplanet research to better understanding Earth’s climate and the influence of the Sun on our planet along with exploration of the solar system, our new science and flagship websites, as well as forthcoming NASA+ videos, showcases our discovery programs in an interdisciplinary and crosscutting way, ultimately building stronger connections with our visitors and viewers,” said Nicky Fox, associate administrator, Science Mission Directorate, NASA Headquarters.

The agency is currently working to unravel the secrets of the universe using powerful observatories including the James Webb Space Telescope, and robotic explorers, including the Perseverance rover and Juno spacecraft. However, the coming decades will see NASA place a greater emphasis on human exploration, as the agency sets its sights on returning astronauts to the Moon as part of its ambitious Artemis program, before pushing out ever further from our homeworld, and sending humans on Mars. With an enhanced digital presence, NASA will now be able to share science, research, exploration, and innovation with the world through cohesive platforms.

It will be exciting to see the final NASA+ website and all it’s intriguing content!
