According to the Meta Blog, two new art exhibits that have incorporated mixed-reality components will be used by Meta to better emphasize the expanding creative opportunities of its metaverse push.
The first is a “Meta House” activity for Miami Art Week (December 1-3), featuring mixed reality works from up-and-coming artists like COVL, YONK, and others.
Meta is aiming to help these artists with their maximum potential in order to encourage new chances for them. This mini-documentary shows how digital artists are finding new ways to express themselves in these developing digital environments.
Doja Cat and GloRilla will also perform live at Meta House, making this a rather significant and expensive effort on the part of Meta to increase its appeal in this way.
On a different front, Instagram is announcing the opening of a new exhibition featuring Tomás Karmelo Amaya’s work that will also have augmented reality components.
The initiatives are a part of Meta’s broader effort to build stronger links with creative groups and offer more ways for people to express themselves and make money using its technologies.
As explained by Meta:
“The next generation of art, culture, and social interaction will be expressed through mediums that blend the physical and digital worlds – also known as mixed reality. And we envision the people leading this movement to be creatives from all backgrounds.”
Meta is aware that in order for its metaverse to succeed, creators will have to help develop more captivating, unique, and original experiences.
Meta can’t accomplish this on its alone and given the increased possibilities offered by VR art and other digital forms of expression. It will be interesting to watch where Meta takes this and whether it actually works to attract more upcoming artists to its many digital channels.
