But Why ‘Gen Beta?

This generational term was coined by social researcher and demographic, Mark McCrindle, following the Greek alphabet naming tradition. He also named Generation Alpha. This tradition helps identify unique traits and trends that define each generation’s impact on society.

This scientific nomenclature follows the tradition of the Greek Alphabet, with the timeline from Baby Boomers to Gen Z to Gen Alpha, and now Gen Beta! The trend is expected to carry on with future generations like Generation Alpha (2010–2024), Generation Beta (2025–2039), Generation Gamma (2040–2054), Generation Delta (2055–2069), and others to follow.

Meet Frankie, India’s 1st Gen Beta Baby!

The OG Generations: How It All Started

Let’s take you through all the generational categories from the yesteryears to today’s Gen Alpha:

  1. Baby Boomers (1946–1964): They grew up in the post-WWII era marked by idealism and rebellion. The Indian baby boomers witnessed independence, the Green Revolution, and the Emergency. They saw The Beatles and Amitabh Bachchan at their peak!
  2. Gen X (1964–1979): They are known as the “Resilient Sandwich Generation” – balancing responsibilities while thriving during economic reforms and the rise of the IT and telecom industries. Think of: Madonna and Shah Rukh Khan.
  3. Millennials (1980–1995): Shaped by the tech revolution and cultural globalization, Millennials are socially conscious and champions of work-life balance.
Think of: Rosanna Pansino (Nerdy Nummies) and Prajakta Koli (MostlySane).
  4. Gen Z (1996–2010): True digital natives, they’ve normalized conversations about mental health and championed accountability.
Think of: Charli D’Amelio and Rida Tharana.
  5. Gen Alpha (2011–2024): Hyper-connected and shaped by AI and the COVID-19 pandemic – they are tech-savvy and focused on sustainability.
Think of: Ryan Kaji and Anantya Anand (MyMissAnand).

So…What Will Define Gen Beta?

Gen Beta will grow up in a world where technology is a crucial part of their every day. Coding robots and chatting with AI will be second nature, making online-first careers and tech-driven education the norm. Self-driving cars, wearable health gadgets, and VR won’t feel futuristic – they’ll just be a part of life.

They’ll also be eco-warriors, tackling climate change with green cities and smart energy systems. This generation will blend innovation and sustainability like never before, making sure the planet thrives alongside progress.

In content creation, they’ll take things to the next level. Holographic influencers and VR-powered stories will be their playground, mixing creativity with cutting-edge tech to tell stories in ways we’ve never seen before.

Everything in their world will be super personalized. From healthcare designed just for them to advanced ed-tech platforms, they’ll have all the tools to thrive in a tech-first, digitally literate world. With India leading the way in ed-tech, their potential will know no bounds.

And here’s the kicker — Gen Beta will be the first generation to step into the 22nd century! Born in 2025, they’ll be 76 years old when 2101 rolls around, carrying the torch of innovation, sustainability, and creativity into the future.

Challenges For Gen Beta

This generation will face the dual challenge of tackling the climate crisis and navigating rapid urbanization & population growth. While exposed to digitalization and AI, children can face a digital divide, where access to cutting-edge tech may favour urban areas, and continuous exposure to digital environments could impact mental well-being.

Gen Beta represents the dawn of a transformative era, where technology, sustainability, and creativity converge to shape a future unlike anything we’ve seen before. This generation is poised to redefine the future in ways we can only begin to imagine.
